Dear Public Schools Parents and Guardians,
At approximately 3:05 p.m. this afternoon, a Hillside Avenue middle school student was
allegedly offered a ride by a Hispanic male with facial hair in the form of a goatee, driving a
silver sedan. The child did not take the ride and immediately reported the incident to the school
administration. The police were contacted and are taking investigatory and protective measures.
Since the reporting of this incident to the Police, there have been no similar incidents
reported. There has been and will continue to be an increased police presence at all
Schools during arrival and dismissal times. All school staff has been alerted to the alleged
incident (administrative, instructional as well as office and custodial staff) and will be extra
vigilant in maintaining the safety of all of our students, which is our primary concern.
As parents, please speak to you children and remind them once again, as we are certain that you
have in the past that they should not speak or go with strangers even if offered candy. Please
take care not to frighten your child(ren). Our teachers will likewise pose similar safety
reminders during the course of their instruction.
The Police continue to work closely with our schools and community. If you have any
information you wish to report, please contact them at 272-2222.
